Cartoons Suck line up by garadrobe Cartoons Suck line up by garadrobe
I looked through my older stuff, good lord it sucks. Anyway, I was looking through it and I found character designs that I really haven't used much lately: [link] , I didn't want to abandon them, but I didn't like my inital idea (the whole knife-throwing bit, that was crap) BUT I liked how I drew the initial characters in an attempted 30's style. So I wanted to keep the style and change the idea.

Like I've said with another deviation(and also hundreds of other people have bitched and moaned about), lots of cartoons nowadays are in a real slump, especially kid's stuff. I know I've said I like all kinds of cartoons, but there's too many "style first animation second" cartoons, too many Japanese influences and ripoffs. So my idea is sort of a commentary of it. Harking back to "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", it uses (or steals) the idea of cartoon characters being actors. These guys are trying to get work in todays cartoons, but can't seem to find it, they just don't fit in. So the cartoon would be based on their tales of woe and trying to get their next big break.

It's called "Cartoons Suck" because that seems to be part of so many arguments regarding cartoons.

Muss: A crotchity old cartoon from back in the 30's who pretty much despises any other form of animation but his own, classic kind. Almost racist in a way. He knows he doesn't have long left, and wants his legacy to live on, and try one last time to get classic animation back in the public eye. He's usually very mean, but his passion for what he represents keeps him going and tolerant.

I designed him after these little characters I would always make whenever I played with play-doh when I was younger. I added more pure black areas on him because thats how older cartoon characters looked, there was a lot of black so they would read. Everything that wasn't black was pure white, but over the years, it's just deteriorated and now he's shades of gray.

Mickel: Muss's grandson. His father was a 30's cartoon who had an affair with a woman from a Simpsons sort of show (hense his orange skin and overbite) who ran off after getting married and never worked in film again. Mickel's a theater college drop-out, in his "first semester drunken college student slacker" mode for the third consecutive year. Seeing Mickel as his legacy's only hope, Muss is constantly trying to get him out of his rut and actually try and succeed in film. Mickel still just doesn't take his life seriously enough yet.

Quinine: An ex-hooker with a sassy attitude. Yeah, it's that annoying sassyness, but she only acts that way to cover up her sad life as a prostitute. Mickel and Muss "saved" her from her abusive pimp and now she tours around with them in their quest for stardom. Who knows what cartoon character she derived from, looks like a Betty Boop type character boned a ceral mascot and made her.

Myukichu: If you look at the old line-up, Myukichu is replacing Pinto, who I honestly don't see working very well, so he's been replaced. Myukichu is obviously a Pikachu parody, only she's sort of like Pikachu's later years, where the fad has since been long gone, and she's no longer this icon everyone knows. Unable to find work because no one cares, she's now like a stray dog, looking around in garbage cans and whatnot for food. Mickel takes her in as a sort of pet. Muss hates her guts, feeling that she's responsable for so many cartoons nowadays having a Japanese influence. He eventually warms up to her, realizing that she's been simply cast aside, much like Muss was many years ago. She's bilingual, but perfers to speak japanese, and acts as a sort of agent to the trio as well because she's more organized than the three American idiots she's with.

So there they are. I hope these guys can fly. I've got several other characters in mind, much are parodies like Myukichu, to interact with these guys. I'll draw them eventually...

This is a pretty awesome concept for a cartoon, one I reckon could get folks to check out the classics. I like the idea of "Old Animation Vs New" in this 'Roger Rabbit'-esque world - I could imagine it partially taking place in the "real" world, i.e. the Toons and humans living side by side.

Hmm... here's a noteworthy passage.
because she's more organized than the three American idiots she's with.

Sounds a lot like the comparison between anime stories and cartoon ones imo. :hmm:

You're absolutely right in that cartoons have gone down the toilet. Even my brother (he's 11) agrees! I showed him a few old episodes of Ninja Turtles and Transformers as well as older Disney films, and he demanded to know why the cartoons today weren't anything like these.

I think this show could work. Where's Cartoon Network?

I always liked the Idea Drawn together put out.. and the first couple of episodes were alright.. but then they got so crude and derogitory that it wasnt worth the time.. I think youve got a great idea here to do that kind of idea correctly.... focusing on classic humor and reallife obsticles instead of the violent and.. well yeah Im not going off on that again.. I like your style and I think this is a great line up.. looking forward to more installments.. lol

I actually like Drawn Together, but I know full well that it isn't a great show. I really don't see many connections between my idea and that though, except maybe Quinine and Toot looking similar, and it being meant for adults, but that's it.

Reminds me of Drawn together. Looks like a fun story. And I loved making play dough monstrs as a kid too. XD

That's actually a pretty good idea for a show!

Ooh, this would make a good cartoon. A show that finally makes fun of today's cartoon industry. Awesome. :]

Without the use of blatent, disgusting humor, cursing and violence?
Chrisdinozilla Featured By Owner Feb 16, 2007
Knowing Garadrobe, that's anything but a possibility.

Well there is a show like this. Even has a similar line-up. But it's really risque.

Very cool! I liked reading the storylines behind the characters and everything...heck, if it was a show, I'd sure as hell watch it.

You know, your right on the Anime part. I mean, serisously, I'm an anime fan, and I feel really insulted whenever I see an Anime inspired show, I feel asthough they are assuming that since we like Anime, we should like everything Anime. That is not true!

Oh, BTW I like Miykuchu, she's cute, and sad.
AxleGrease-75 Featured By Owner Feb 10, 2007
Gotta love the 1930s characters
